A discussion that comes up from time to time, especially with people who are on livery yards, is that people are given 'advice' on what they should and shouldn't be doing with their horse.
What I tell all my clients is that every journey is unique. No-one else is taking the same path as you. And yet we allow other people to judge us about the choices we make. It is so important that you stick to your values and don't be swayed by 'popular opinion'. I also need to point out that this includes instructors. If someone tells you to do something with your horse that feels wrong, or isn't something you want to do - speak up! Instructors don't always get it right but they must always be humble enough to know when they haven't 'read the room'.
I liken any person's journey with their horse as being a partnership that you have to protect at all costs. Stay true to your horse and they will pay you back many times over.
